— Tahlequah Aglow Community Lighthouse

Tahlequah Aglow Community Lighthouse will host Dr. Fidelis Ossom at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Tahlequah Public Library Carnegie Room, 120 S. College Ave., Tahlequah.

Ossom was born in Nigeria, and he came to the U.S. in 1980. He is a former NSU assistant business professor, and locals may also remember that in 1997 he established and then pastored Tahlequah Miracle Center Church for seven years. Now, he travels the world preaching and teaching about Jesus.

Beta Sigma Phi

Omicron Eta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Feb. 5 at Gino’s Italian Restaurant for their Valentine party. After the meal ,members went to the home of Kathleen McCaslin for the regular meeting.

The meeting was called to order by President Martha Tuteral with members reciting the opening ritual. The minutes of the previous meeting and the Treasurer’s report were read and approved.

After a short business meeting Thelma Terrill was crowned as the Chapter’s 2013 Valentine Sweetheart by Debbie Schrader, outgoing Sweetheart for 2012. She will also receive a sweetheart pin.

“Secret sisters” exchanged Valentine gifts and had refreshments served by Kathleen.

The March meeting will be in the home of Martha Tuteral at 6 p.m. March 5.

The Communication Chairperson will notify members of the time and place of the March meeting.



St. Joseph Seniors

St. Joseph Seniors 50 and up will meet Thursday. All parishioners, 50 and up, and guests are welcome to attend.

A communion service will be held at 12:10 p.m. in the Marian Chapel followed by a potluck luncheon in the church commons. Hostesses are Jan and Bill Bradley and Kay and Jim Schagunn. Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish.

Entertainment by Shades of Gray (Senior Follies) with songs, dance, comedy skits and trivia will be presented by Bob Cockle, Lillian Jayne, Bob and Betty Honea, Ben and Marcia Robinson, and Kalua Corbin.



PEO Chapter CJ

Chapter CJ, P.E.O. will meet at 11:45 a.m. Monday at Harmony House for lunch and the reading of the president’s letter.



Muskogee Garden Club

The Muskogee Garden Club will meet at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the Kiwanis Senior Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Coffee and social time will begin at 9:30 a.m. Hostesses are Donna Ausmus, Gloria Nicholson, and Zareeta Thompson.

Master Gardener Skip West from Cohlmia’s of Tulsa will present the program, “I Want One of Those Tropicals.” West will provide several tropical plants for demonstration and sale at the end of the meeting.

Toastmasters International

Virgil Rose presented his speech, “Love Conquers All” at the last meeting of World Class Speakers Club. Virgil is preparing to present his speech in the area speech contest on March 23 in Tulsa. Toastmasters offer opportunities to learn to speak to small groups in the club setting as well as larger groups in competitions such as the one Virgil will compete in on March 23.

The meetings of the Word Class Speakers Club in Muskogee are fun and presented in a relaxed atmosphere while still adhering to important rules of order such as beginning and ending on time. Visitors will be entertained while learning important aspects of public speaking and club procedures. If you have never attended a Toastmasters meeting, please consider attending the next meeting. You might be surprised at how much fun can be had in a short, orderly fashion.

Toastmasters meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Three Rivers Museum, 220 Elgin, in Muskogee. The next meeting is Tuesday.



Green Country Duplicate Bridge

Green Country Duplicate Bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. If interested in playing or learning to play duplicate bridge contact Ann Kent at (918) 682-3098, Mary Smith at (918) 682-2605, or Sandy Cole at (918) 684-9002.

The club will have a special game  March 3 for seniors ( 55 and older). All bridge players in the community are invited. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Call the numbers above if a partner is needed or further information is needed.

Recent winners are:

• Feb. 6 — In first place were Renee Tyrrell and Alice Barham, second place was Sandra Cole and Santa McWilliams;

• Feb. 8 — Linda Stearns and Norma Kolmer placed first, Pamela Coonce and Becky Powers placed second, Ann Kuykendall and Ann Kent placed third, and Dave Murdock and Norma Kolmer placed fourth;

• Feb. 11 — Ruth Sharpe and Betty Jordan tied with Ralph Parker and Fran Martin for first and second, Norma Kolmer and Linda Stearns were third.



Soroptimist International

Colleen Noble, student retention specialist from Connors State College, will be the guest speaker for Soroptimist International of Muskogee. She will be presenting a program on ways to keep students engaged in school to complete their degree plans. The meeting will be held at the Muskogee Public Library at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

The Muskogee New Friends upcoming schedule:

• Feb. 20 — 10 a.m. brunch at IHOP, then to Pat Adams’ for dominoes.

• Feb. 22 — 11:15 a.m. lunch and games at Cowboy’s. Call Dorothy Pack, (918) 682-2030 for bridge, or Pat Lattie (918) 682-1704 for dominoes. Reservations a must, and you must cancel by Feb. 21 or you pay for lunch charge.

• March 1 — 10 a.m. board meeting at Odd Fellows. If unable to attend, call Vickie Sanders, (918) 682-4715

• March 6 — 11:30 a.m. domino group. Meet at Pat Adams’, bring a sandwich.

• March 7 — Red Cross Blood Drive, call Pat Adams to volunteer as hostess.

• March 8 — 11 a.m. general meeting and potato luncheon. Bring salad, toppings, or dessert.

Thanks to several members of New Friends, the residents of Eastgate Village, Broadway Manor, York Street Manor and Pleasant Valley Health Care Center had small Valentine surprises on their lunch trays on Valentines Day.



Tahlequah Rock and Mineral Society

The Tahlequah Rock and Mineral Society will have their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tahlequah Public Library. We will have our regular business meeting, show and tell, and refreshments.



New Century Club

New Century Club will meet on Thursday in the parlor at First Presbyterian Church. Marilyn Gilder will review the book “Madeline Albright: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948.” Ann Brizendine and Marily Hinshaw are hostesses.



Real Estate Professionals

This months Real Estate Professionals meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Muskogee Library. The annual bean dinner will be discussed. Please attend.
