Library taking enrollments for GED, citizenship classes

— Do you know how many amendments are in the U.S. Constitution? What power, under the U.S. Constitution, do the federal and state governments have? When was the U.S. Constitution written?

How is your essay-writing skill? Maybe you would like to discuss what a covalent bond is. Do you understand proportions, ratios and percent?

These are just a few questions and areas that the Adult Literacy Department at Muskogee Public Library cover in its U.S. citizenship and GED test preparation classes. If you have been thinking about taking your GED or studying for the citizenship test, now may be your time to start.

The Adult Literacy Department is enrolling for a Monday night GED class and a new Monday morning U.S. citizenship class.

The GED class, which meets for six months, will begin Jan. 7. Class hours are 6 to 8 p.m. It will cover all areas on the GED test. The last day to enroll in the class is Jan. 28. If you have not passed the test during the six months, you can re-enroll for six more months.

The U.S Citizenship Test Preparation class will meet from 11 a.m. to noon Mondays, starting Jan. 28. The last day for enrollment will be Feb. 25. This class will cover the 100 civics questions from the study guide, as well as speaking, reading, and writing English. This class will run for three months, with optional re-enrollment afterward.

If these class times do not work with your schedule, the library has other times for these classes, as well as Adult Basic Education, ESL and math classes. Enrollment for these classes are ongoing, and participants can begin the class at any time.

The class schedule is as follows:

• GED classes — 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

• U.S. Citizenship — 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

• English as a Second Language — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays.

Adult Basic Education (reading, writing, comprehension, spelling) and math, basic to upper level, are each scheduled individually. Library patrons are welcome to enroll as an individual student in any of the other areas as well.

So, if you have been thinking about improving your skills in any of these areas, but just haven't taken the step, don't put it off any longer. The Muskogee Public Library Adult Literacy Department welcomes you.

If you are interested in enrolling or tutoring, call Muskogee Public Library’s Adult Literacy Coordinator Penny Chastain at (918) 682-6657, Ext. 246.
