New Century Club

The New Century Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church. Lisa Harbison will review “Bunker Hill, a City, a Siege, a Revolution” by Nathaniel Philbrook. Hostesses will be Jill Abdallah and Diane Hamby.

Green Country Duplicate Bridge

Green Country Duplicate Bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. If you are interested in playing or learning to play duplicate bridge, call Ann Kent at (918) 682-3098, Mary Smith at (918) 682-2605, or Sandy Cole at (918) 684-9002.

• Jan. 22 — Mary Beyers and Doris Taylor, first; Helen Richmond and Ann Kuykendall, second; and Nettie Kaad and Bill Porter, third.

• Jan. 24 — Ruth Sharpe and Ann Kent were, first; Jo Ann Poirier and Lisa Poirier, second; and Mary Smith and Ralph Parker, third.

• Jan. 27 — Linda Stearns and Norma Kolmer, first; Ruth Sharpe and Betty Jordan, second.

Feb. 3 will be a special seniors game for those 55 and older. Extra masterpoints will be available.

Fort Gibson Genealogy and Historical Society

The Fort Gibson Genealogy and Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church. Richard Carr, owner of Buried Treasure Antiques in Fort Gibson, will be the speaker. He will be speaking on the “History of the Soda Pop.”

This month is casseroles and dessert. Members are asked to call and let us know what you are bringing.

The Genealogy Library will be open at 5 p.m. for those wanting to do research.

Visitors are always welcome, and if we can help you with your research, there are members who can help you.

McIntosh County Retired Teachers’ Association

The McIntosh County Retired Teachers’ Association is meeting Feb. 14 at the Jim Lucas Library in Checotah.

State Sen. Roger Ballenger, State Rep. Ed Cannaday, State Rep. Jerry McPeak, and State Rep. Donnie Condit are attending for a “Legislative Appreciation Meeting.” They will have an opportunity to tell news from the legislative opening weeks.  

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns. All area retired school personnel are invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served.
