UKB plans gourd dance Saturday to raise money for veterans fund

— TAHLEQUAH — The UKB Tribal Veterans department will have a benefit gourd dance from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, with an hourlong break at 5 p.m.

The dance will be at the Wellness Center at the UKB Tribal Complex, 18529 W. Keetoowah Circle. There will be 50/50 raffles and concessions.

The dance is intended to raise money for the Veterans Emergency Fund. Established last year, it is used for veterans who may need food, gasoline or other immediate needs when there is no funding immediately available through other sources such as UKB housing, human services, general assistance, LIHEAP, and family services, according to a media release.

All gourd dancers and spectators are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to bring  lawn chairs.

Jacob Littledave, a UKB tribal veterans representative, is coordinating the event.

The recipient of three Purple Hearts, Littledave helps veterans file claims for veterans’ benefits, Social Security, widow pensions, and educational benefits for veteran’s children, according to the release.
