Run to raise funds for family of ailing girl

Infant’s condition keeps her from eating properly

— Jennifer Hiner said one thing that keeps her family moving forward is support from back home.

“We can’t even express what it means to us,” Hiner said. “That’s how we keep going.”

Hiner’s daughter Allie Reece Hiner was born Dec. 19, six weeks early, with a condition that makes her unable to eat.

Jennifer and Ryan Hiner have been traveling from hospital to hospital with their daughter. Allie has been through several surgeries and other procedures.

In the meantime, friends and family members back home have been rallying for the Hiners.

On Saturday, the community has a chance to participate in a 5K benefit run/walk. The proceeds from the race will help Allie’s family with medical bills for the girl’s recovery and living expenses.

When Allie was born, she had an esophageal atresia/tracheo fistula.

“Her stomach wasn’t connected, so she couldn’t eat,” Jennifer Hiner said. “She has been through four surgeries to repair it.”

Allie is in Boston Children’s Hospital with her parents. The long race for the Hiners may finally be coming to the finish line. After Thursday the family will know whether they will be able to come home.

“We can’t wait to come home and see everybody,” Hiner said.

The Hiners have a 2-year-old daughter, Emma, waiting for them in Muskogee.

“We are ready to get back and see her,” Hiner said.

When the family can finally bring their baby girl home for the first time it will be a great experience, Hiner said.

“The homecoming will be a very big deal,” she said.

The idea for the benefit run came from friends of the Hiners.

“Some of the girls who knew them from the community came to me,” said Amy Hasler.

Hasler and her husband, John Hasler, own Elite Race Co.

“God gave us this avenue of our business to help, I feel like,” Hasler said.

Donations can be made for those who will not be able to participate in the run at alliesrun.eventbrite.

com. The first 100 runners will receive a T-shirt and backpack. Registration will be open until the morning of the event.
