Roxy show to honor veterans

Singer from 1995 OKC memorial service in lineup

The Saturday Night Spotlight will have a Veterans Appreciation Show at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Roxy Theater. Spotlight will join with Blue Star Mothers to collect needed supplies for military troops.

Youth singers and musicians will perform on stage to encourage donations and tips throughout the evening. Ernestine Dillard of Bixby will be a returning guest artist to Spotlight to honor our veterans.

Dillard is best remembered for her April 23, 1995, vocal performance at the Oklahoma City Memorial Service for the victims of the Murrah Building bombing. She performed before 11,000 mourners and a national television audience with her “God Bless America” medley that closed the service.

In 1994, she ended a 33-year career as a registered nurse to pursue music full time. Her career has included concert appearances in Paris; Geneva; at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point; at Philadelphia’s “Let Freedom Ring” celebration; and at many other events, according to a media release.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children younger than 12. Door prizes will be given.

Information: Michael Anthamatten, (918) 616-5003.
