Mall plans ‘Gimme the Mike’ watch party

Arrowhead Mall of Muskogee will host a “Gimme the Mike” watch party for Zach Swon of Muskogee at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Swon, 22, was a wildcard winner on The News On Six, which gives him another shot at the finale. The weekly wildcard winners will compete against each other for a spot in the finale airing live on Aug. 20.

Swon said the wildcard winner show will be a recap of his earlier performance including an interview he already taped.

Swon will perform from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday in the food court of the mall with “Gimme the Mike” shown on a big-screen at 7:30 p.m. Viewers will be asked to call in to vote for their favorite following the show through 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The winner will be live on Channel Six news on Friday, Swon said..

“It’s been fun and been challenging,” he said. “I’ve never stood on stage without a instrument in my hand.”

A student at Northeastern State University, Swon is employed with the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee. He started playing drums at age 4 and at 7 began playing for his parents’ gospel band. His parents, Kelly and Tammy Swon of Muskogee, had their group together about 12 years and encouraged Swon and his younger brother, Colton Swon, to perform. Zach Swon picked up guitar, piano, singing and writing music. He and his brother are pursuing music careers.
