If you don’t read this carefully, you might think The Saddle Club in Muskogee has decided to upgrade its Internet service this weekend. Instead, the all-female musical group broadBAND is coming to town Saturday night.
Shelly Bush, lead vocalist and spokeswoman for the band, said the girls met on Broadway Street in Nashville, where most of them had spent time performing with each other.
“We got all the individual members together and started playing,” Bush said. “We realized it was unique. Then a friend of mine told us that we had a band of broads. From there, the name was born.”
broadBAND has opened for some of the biggest names in country music, such as Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, and Sugarland. They perform a blend of country and southern rock, and bring a lot of energy to the stage.
The Saddle Club owner Craig Morgan said broadBAND has a certain engaging appeal for people.
“They’re great folks,” Morgan said. “They have a lot of charisma. I’ve gotten the chance to jam with them a couple of times, and they’re awesome to work with. They’re also very easy on the eyes.”
broadBAND will have an exception to the rule on Saturday night, in that they will be missing their normal lead guitarist. Her replacement doesn’t fit the demographic, but he certainly lends more than his share of talent to the band.
“We’ll have Luther Lewis playing guitar for us on Saturday,” Bush said. “He is a very talented musician from Nashville who has been in a music video with Taylor Swift.”
The show will begin at 9 p.m. Saturday and last to 1 a.m. Morgan said there wouldn’t be a cover charge for the event.
“We want people to come out and have a good time,” he said. “We’ll have some great food and some great times.”
broadBAND was established in 2007, and it plays more than 200 shows a year according to Bush’s website. It’s been asked to play at the National Rodeo Finalists in Las Vegas this year, and they have performed for NASCAR Week as well.
Bush said the band was excited to come back to Muskogee, having performed at The Saddle Club in 2010.
“Everyone is so friendly in Muskogee,” Bush said. “We know so many people there, it’s honestly like going home.”
