Muskogee’s home grown gospel music sensation returns at 6 tonight at the Roxy Theatre for the 2013 Gospel Music Celebration.
Jeremy Hart has been traveling the U.S., playing more than 120 dates this year. Now he vows his homecoming will be a night to remember.
“We are doing everything we can to make this year’s concert the best one Muskogee has ever seen,” Hart said.
Hart released a new solo album in September, “Come Find,” containing all original songs.
He is excited to sing his new material in his hometown.
“I am blessed to travel from state to state, and city to city, sharing the good news and gospel of Jesus Christ,” Hart said. “I absolutely love it; however there is nothing like singing at home.”
Hart said when he is on the road, he typically doesn’t know most of the people in the audience.
“What I love about singing in Muskogee, and hosting these concerts in my hometown, is that one I step on stage I can look out across the audience and see old high school friends, family, former teachers, my mailman, the guy who sold me my first guitar, the owners of my favorite local restaurants, prominent Muskogee citizens and people that have known all my life,” Hart said. “It’s a great feeling when I can look out and see so many friends and hometown folks that have come out to enjoy the night with me.”
Hart was inspired while growing up in Muskogee by many different people.
But it was at his church that he first felt his calling to music.
“My home church, the Muskogee United Pentecostal Church pastored by my grandpa, Rev. Bill Shirel, and my dad, Rev. Mike Hart is where I first developed a love for singing, a desire to write songs, and recognized my calling to reach the world around me with the message of Jesus Christ,” Hart said.
Beyond the Ashes also will perform. This will be their first time to be in concert with Jeremy and their first ever Muskogee performance.
The quartet released their first national album, “Living in the Moment” after being signed with StowTown Records earlier this year.
The group has been nominated for three Dove Awards, including New Artist of the Year in 2012. Won the AGM Horizon Group of the Year Award in 2011, and won the Diamond award for Sunrise group of the year in 2012.
This marks the third annual homecoming gospel show for Hart. He admits he still gets butterflies before his performances.
“There’s always a level of nervousness and pressure anytime you step on a stage; however, at the same time it simply feels like home,” Hart said.
