“When I hear the word ‘retreat,’ I think of a peaceful, calming, relaxing, quiet time to reach within oneself and make right what is askew or to gain inner strength to face whatever the world hurls at us,” says artist and instructor Skip Thompson in a media release.  “I can’t think of a better way to achieve all this than through art.  We seem to live in a fast paced left brain world and art takes us into another dimension which comes from delving into our right brain and seeing the world and everything in it, in an entirely different way.  We all have the capability and creativity but don't always know how to tap into it.  This retreat will focus on just that.  I believe it is more difficult to see than it is to apply. So, if you are a beginner and have always wanted to paint, there is no better time than now to start.  If you have been painting for a while, you may gain some inspiration and hopefully take away something beneficial.  Art is a continual learning process and I don't claim to know it all, but I feel it is my responsibility to pass on what I have learned from others and am happy to be able to do so.”

“I am often in awe of an Oklahoma sunset, or light filtering in through a window and literally penetrating an object in its path and casting shadows along the way.  I want others to feel the wonderment or experience a memory or some other emotion when they view my art.  These are the reasons I paint.  Art nourishes my soul ... it is my SOUL FOOD.”

Calling the Arbuckle Mountains of Southern Oklahoma home, Skip Thompson has been a painter for over 30 years.  Skip paints primarily in oil on canvas covered hardwood panels, but occasionally uses different techniques and approaches.  She belongs to several area art clubs, Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, Oklahoma Lady Artists, Oklahoma Art Guild, and Outdoor Painters Society.  Her work can be found in galleries and shows across Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas.
