Alpha Theta 1038

Alpha Theta 1038 of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the home of Ruth Carnagey. The meeting will begin with an educational presentation by Doris Pack of Vian. Pack will share information about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis which is a philanthropic project of ESA.

Ways and means work assignments for the Bedouin Shrine Basketball Classic at the Civic Center will be discussed. Members are reminded to bring food items for the local food pantry.


The Muskogee Chapter of the National Association of Current and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd.

Guest speaker will be Francie Martin, assistant storm water compliance officer, who will discuss recycling in Muskogee.

A door prize will be drawn. All federal employees, members and guests are welcome.

Soroptimist International

Soroptimist International, a group of local business and professional women in the Muskogee area who work to improve the lives of women and girls in the Muskogee community, donated a new computer to Monarch of Muskogee in December. Monarch is a nonprofit organization committed to serving women who suffer from substance abuse offering hope and a new beginning to women in recovery.

The computer will be used as an education center for children and teens which visit Monarch. Approximately 100 women and children are helped each year through Monarch, said Director Rachel Neighbors.

Muskogee Area Quilters Guild

The Muskogee Area Quilters Guild will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Fifth and Broadway streets.

The program will be “100 Years of American Quilts: 1850-1950,” presented by Donna Skvarla of Norman. It will include one quilt for each decade to show what was popular during each time period. There will also be show and tell and door prizes.

Quilt appraisals also will be available for those who would like one. They will be scheduled before the meeting. To schedule an appraisal, email and put Quilt Appraisal Appointment in the subject line with your name and contact information in the body of the email. Appraisals are $40.

Three Rivers Photography Club

Three Rivers Photography Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Muskogee Art Guild, 315 Court St.

The club will have an extra presentation by club member Laura Cope and her trip to Antarctica in November. The year-end first through honorable mention in each category and the Best of the Best also will be revealed.

Books At Noon

Wagoner Library Friends Corp., Books At Noon will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at the First Presbyterian Church, 205 N. Main, Wagoner.

Author Lorraine Holman from Pryor  will talk about her two books; “Trials, Thanks A Lot” and “Trials, Now What.”

Lunch will be sponsored by the First Methodist Church Women’s Association and Scamps. Lunch costs $3.

The group also is taking donations for the Blue Star Mothers gift boxes. Toiletries, paper back books, wet wipes, hard candies or anything soldiers can use.

Tahlequah Aglow

Tahlequah Aglow will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Carnegie Room at the Tahlequah Library, 120 S. College Ave.

Tess Courtney will be the speaker.

Courtney grew up in Tahlequah. She is a licensed minister who runs “Nana’s House” a home for the weary to be refreshed.

Meetings will now be held the second Thursday of every month.

The New Century Club will meet Thursday in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church.

Delta Sigma Theta

Members of the Muskogee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta will have their January chapter at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Grant Foreman Room of the Muskogee Public Library. Bring your favorite dish and a gift to exchange.
