Photo exhibition opens at The Bite tonight

— Permanently housed in West Hollywood at the former site of  “The Doors Workshop,” the “Open Doors” photo exhibit featuring photos by Lisa LaRue will open today in Muskogee. The exhibit will hang for one month following its opening at a downtown restaurant.

The opening is set for 6:30 p.m. tonight at The Bite, 318 West Broadway, and will continue to hang and be available for purchase. There is a $5  charge for the opening, which will include wine and appetizers.

LaRue photographed what she describes as “eclectic views of the details and remains of historic sites in Los Angeles affiliated with The Doors” in 2012 while temporarily living in Los Angeles, and was honored by having the original opening at Forbidden Restaurant and Lounge in West Hollywood, according to a media release. That location, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, was “The Doors Workshop,” where the legendary rock band and its frontman Jim Morrison had their offices, rehearsal hall, and most famously, recorded the iconic album “L.A. Woman” — with Morrison recording vocals in the bathroom. The exhibit is permanently housed there and is visited on a daily basis by fans of The Doors from around the world.

“I would say they are rock and roll photos for a mature audience — focusing on the historic sites and architectural details rather than the persons themselves,” LaRue in the release.

Appearing at the opening will also be John Baker of the progressive rock band Forever Twelve and an award-winning audio engineer. John has a resume which includes playing with Christian Love of The Beach Boys, The Little Girls, Harvey Sid Fisher and Mars Hollow. Also a well-rounded engineer, he has worked alongside Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) and Richie Zito (Elton John, Heart) in addition to many other projects. He is also working on a solo album, and just this month released a preview single from the project title “I’ll Be the One,” and is the husband of LaRue.

There will also be a special musical performance by Chris Tracy of Muskogee.

LaRue has released 7 albums, most recently Fast and Blue with her progressive rock band Lisa LaRue 2KX, and has worked extensively with John Payne (of Asia featuring John Payne) who co-produced the latest album, as well as with musicians such as Michael Sadler (Saga) and many others. In 2012, her band released “Lemniscate,” a tribute to the children who died on the Russian pleasure boat The Bulgaria which was debuted on Moscow radio and made national news in that country where LaRue has a significant fanbase. She is also currently working on an album with Federico Fantacone, to be released in 2013.

LaRue, a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma, and her husband, who relocated to Muskogee after their 2012 marriage, live in the historic C.B. Harris House in Muskogee, which they are currently restoring and preserving.
