Muskogee girl picked for national band, choir

— Chelsey Kimble, daughter of Michelle Kimble of Muskogee, has been selected to perform with a national performing organization known as The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.

Kimble, who is currently a junior at Muskogee High School, is a member of the concert choir, and is lead snare in the drumline of the Pride of Muskogee.

She has been involved with both the choir and the band since the sixth grade, and has made All-State Choir, Eastern District Honor Choir and solo and ensemble with superior ratings for the last several years.

Kimble’s past performances in the community include the Saturday Night Spotlight at the Roxy Theatre, guest performances with Downtown Country at Northeastern State University and an invitation only performance at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame., according to a media release.

She will join other student chosen from applicants representing nearly every state when The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus begins its 2014 European concert tour in July.

Selection into The Sound of America membership is a a distinguished honor for all participants.

All applicants are carefully screened and chosen only after a rigid character and musical evaluation. Kimble was the only participant selected to represent the state of Oklahoma.

The tour will begin with four days of intensive rehearsal at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, Pa.

The group will then depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for Frankfurt, Germany.

The group is scheduled to present nine performances in some of Europe’s finest concert halls and major cathedrals during its 23-day tour.

The students will experience the cultures of six countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg.

Some of the exciting locations that will be visited during the tour are Paris, Venice, Salzburg, Verona, Rothenburg, Grindelwald and La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Students who have qualified for The Sound of America membership are responsible for all expenses of the trip.

Kimble is currently working on raising funds to assist in her expenses for the trip.
