MPL programs to focus on historic Oklahoma women

The Muskogee Public Library will be celebrating women of character, courage, and commitment during March by offering two Oklahoma women’s history events.

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Jonita Mullins will be hosting “Afternoon Tea With Alice Robertson.” Mullins’ program on Alice Robertson reveals the remarkable accomplishments of a woman who was ahead of her time, according to a media release. Robertson’s lifelong work in Oklahoma is a an often-overlooked chapter in Oklahoma and American women’s history, the release states. Tea and finger-foods will be served and guests are welcome to dress for the occasion.

At 2 p.m. March 22, Dr. Terri Baker will present a program about the experience of “Pioneer Women in Oklahoma.” Baker has worked as an educator and humanities scholar for more than 40 years, working in public schools, universities, and museums. She is the co-author of “Women who Pioneered Oklahoma” with Connie Henshaw. Baker will have books available for sale, and refreshments will be served.
