Muskogee County Genealogical Society

Ever dream of a trip overseas to find your family roots?

Judge Norman Thygesen will share his experiences doing just that when the Muskogee County Genealogical Society meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Grant Foreman Room of the Muskogee Public Library.

A quest to solve a family mystery plus search for family roots led him to hire an expert on Danish research and to travel to Denmark. His travels took him to churches and their records where his Danish ancestors worshipped and where they are also buried. His talk will be illustrated with photographs taken in Denmark.

Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting. Those attending bring snacks and drinks for the meeting.

The regular April meeting will be held April 26 rather than the usual Thursday evening. Scheduled at 10 a.m., the meeting will feature “mini how-to” sessions and members will bring brunch foods to share.

Jim Edwards, owner of Books and Antiques, will share his knowledge of collecting historic books when the society meets at 6 p.m. May 22. His vast experience comes from his many years in the antique book business in Oklahoma City before his move to Muskogee.

The society’s year will end for the summer on June 28 when the society combines its annual pot luck with award winning barbecue and a “lock in” at the library until 10 p.m. Those attending will have the opportunity to research and use computers throughout the library after it closes for the day. Register for the event in the Genealogy and Local History Department.

Society meetings resume in September.

Muskogee Antiques and Collectible Club

Muskogee Antiques and Collectible Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Muskogee Public Library. The program will be given by our guest Fredda Swon and is “From Garage Sale to the Antiques Road Show.” Everyone is invited to come and bring their garage sale finds for show and tell. Refreshments will be served.
