OMHOF to have band, ballroom duo for Christmas by Candlelight tour

The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame will be one of the hosts for the annual Christmas by Candlelight tour.

The OMHOF will present special entertainment for its visitors this year.

Executive Director Jim Blair has formed an OMHOF house band that will perform during the evening. Blair is well known in the area for his tribute to Hank Williams show, “Hankerin’ for Hank.” He has performed the show extensively in several different states as well as Oklahoma City and the Muskogee area. The band will consist of Blair on vocals, guitar, and mandolin; Ronald Boren on drums; Micheal Rappe, vocals; and Jermaine Mondaine, saxophone; and will expand as musicians are available. The band plays a variety of country, rock, bluegrass and blues.

The OMHOF is also featuring for the first time a ballroom dance duo.

Randy McBride began his professional dance career in 1985 and has worked for Arthur Murray Studios, Londance Dance studio, and Fred Astaire’s Dance Studios. He has become an accomplished ballroom dance instructor in the American Style Rhythm and Smooth and the Bronze level of American Style, and all dances with the National Dance Council of America with Joe Lozano. He has competed in the Pro-Am and Pro-Pro divisions in the National Dance Council of America. McBride placed third in Rising Star and fourth in the Open at the Fred Astaire’s National Cross Country in 1993 with Teresa Mason.

McBride’s dance partner for the evening will be Susan Harris of Muskogee. A  student of McBride’s, she is a competition dancer. She was named the Best Student Dancer in 2013.

McBride has won the Top Teacher of the Year for 2012 and 2013 in the Rising Star Friendly National Competition Circuit.

McBride teaches at the Strictly Ballroom studio in Tulsa and recently started classes in Muskogee. He teaches ballroom dancing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Civic Center, and he teaches LeBlast classes at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cockle’s Dance Studio.

Refreshments provided by members of the Christmas Home Tour Committee will be available. Tours are scheduled for 7-10 p.m. Friday, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For information and tickets:  Donna, (918) 683-6600.
