United Methodist Women book review, bake and book sale set Oct. 19

— The United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church will hold its annual Book Review and Bake/Book Sale at 12:30 p.m., October 19.

The book review will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by a reception.  Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door or from any UMW member.  Proceeds will go to local mission projects and everyone is invited to attend.

Martha Tuteral will present a humorous review entitled “If a Woman’s Hair is her Glory, Why am I Tweezing my Chin?” by well-known comedy writer Martha Bolton.  Bolton has written over 50 books, and her writings have appeared in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Reader’s Digest and Brio magazine.  She has received four Angel Awards and an Emmy nomination.

Tuteral has reviewed several of Bolton’s books and compares her humor to the late Erma Bombeck.  In this book, Bolton writes about the importance of appreciating every aspect of your life because they are all part of being alive.

Mrs. Tuteral has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1958 and has been reviewing books in the area for more than 30 years.  While she likes all kinds of books, she especially enjoys bringing joy and laughter to her audiences in hopes that, for a short time, they can forget any problems they might have.
