Green Country Duplicate Bridge    

Green Country Duplicate bridge meets at 12:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Kiwanis Senior Citizens Center, 119 Spaulding Blvd. Newcomers are welcome. If interested in playing or learning to play duplicate bridge contact Ann Kent at (918) 682-3098, Mary Smith at (918) 682-2605, or Sandy Cole at (918) 684-9002.

Recent winners are:

• Nov. 7 — Mary Beyers and Bill Kaad, first; Joyce Shaffer and Bill Porter, second; and Sandra Cole and Santa McWilliams, third.

• Nov. 9 was a STaC game, meaning the club was competing against players from District 15, which includes players from parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Texas. Winners locally were Alice Barham and Marcia Robinson, first; Betty Jordan and Jane Lopes, second; and Mary Smith and Ralph Parker, third. Alice Barham and Marcia Robinson were third in C group over the District getting silver points.

• Nov. 12 — Bonnie Jennings and Ruth Sharpe, first; and Werner Wagner and Betty Jordan, second.

Several members went to the Life Masters party in Tulsa, where Ann Kent received her Life Master rating. Dave Murdock and Norma Kolmer received points for being fourth overall in the C group.

A team of four — Dave Murdock, Ann Kent, Norma Kolmer and Linda Stearnes — will be going to Oklahoma City for a sectional tournament.



McIntosh County Retired Educators

The McIntosh County Retired Educators met at the Jim Lucas Library in Checotah on Nov. 9. The program included Representative Ed Cannaday’s legislative update followed by questions from the membership regarding state legislation. Also, Stephanie Spring spoke to the membership regarding retired educators’ member benefits that are available to retired teachers who are members.

Zulu Faught and Imogene Duvall provided refreshments to the Blue Notes and the retirees.

Immediately after the meeting, Assistant Superintendent Toni Brown led the group on a comprehensive tour of the new school being built in Checotah.

The next meeting will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 8, 2013, at the Jim Lucas Library. The Jr. High Blue Notes will entertain. All retired school personnel in McIntosh County and surrounding areas are invited to attend.

Tahlequah Rock & Mineral Society

The Tahlequah Rock & Mineral Society will have its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tahlequah Public Library. The guest speaker for the evening will be Pat Synar. His presentation will be “Bronze Casting: the Minerals and Methods used from Ancient History to Today.”

The public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

The society will have a short business meeting to present and vote on a new slate of officers for next year.
