Cayden Cooper, 6, was eager to show off his grandfather’s 1951 Chevrolet at Saturday’s car, truck and motorcycle show.
The pearl white truck already was polished to a high shine, but Cooper was proud to get out a dust rag and give the grill a going-over.
The truck was one of about 140 vehicles on display at the show, said Gary Perkins, executive director of the sponsoring Fort Gibson Chamber of Commerce.
This was the 15th year the chamber had sponsored the event, its biggest fundraiser of the year, Perkins said.
A burnout contest on Friday night opened this year’s show with a large crowd. Contestants tried to create the largest cloud of smoke by spinning their tires.
The audience cheered as some of the entrants had blowouts. The fire department hosed down the street before and during each contestant’s attempt.
Saturday’s crowd for the car show also was very good, Perkins said.
“We had a lot of cars, good vendors — it was just an outstanding event,” he said.
A cruise from the east side of Fort Gibson to the dam and back had about 40 cars and also turned out very well for a first-time effort, he said.
