Two Fort Gibson girls, Lauren McFarland, 11, and Ashlyn Frix, 10, took medals and the right to compete at nationals in Oklahoma Kids State Talent Competition in Moore.
McFarland, daughter of Marty and Stacy McFarland, received two silver medals, two first in age medals and a gold.
Frix, daughter of Shane and Amy Frix, took a silver medal and a first in her age group in Oklahoma Kids State Talent Competition in Moore last weekend.
Also qualifying for national competition from this area was Bowen Page, 11, son of Drs. Gary and Ann Page of Oktaha. He received a silver medal in the state competition.
Also a local family was awarded Oklahoma Kids Family of the Year. Marty, Stacy and Lauren McFarland were presented with a plaque and recognition.
They have dedicated many hours to recruiting, coordinating bookings, assisting during shows with sound, fundraisers and encouraging the children. When State Director, Clarence Moore was announcing the award, Stacy turned to a parent sitting with her and remarked that she knew she wouldn’t.
The national competition will be in Branson, Mo., July 13-17.
Also at the state contest, Marty, Stacy and Lauren McFarland were named the Oklahoma Kids Family of the Year for the dedication they have shown to recruiting, coordinating bookings, assisting during shows with sound, fundraisers and encouraging the children.
Oklahoma Kids will perform at the Fort Gibson Corn Festival June 27.
