Spring Fling proves a success

By Gary Perkins
Chamber Notes

— For those of you that did not see the results of the recent “Spring Fling for a Cause” 5K and Mile Fun Run, here they are.

All results are for the 5K run.

Marceline Martinez, of Tahlequah, won the 5K male division with a time of 19:08. He was closely followed by Chance Wafford, of Fort Gibson, and Colby Jones, of Mounds.

Kayla Bell, of Fort Gibson, won the 5K female division with a time of 20:26. She was followed by Faith Ketcher, of Stilwell, and Charity Pickup, of Fort Gibson.

It was a great run, with many participating in the Mile Fun Run, both as runners and as walkers.

Proceeds went toward helping Special Olympics, and special thanks needs to go to Lisa Walkingstick and Melody Stacey, for their efforts in putting this annual run together.

They had many helpers from family, friends, and the chamber helping out at the sign-in tables, passing out the T-shirts, and manning the water stations.

Thanks to all those that participated and helped out to make this run successful.

We are excited to announce the seventh annual Historic Golf Tournament, scheduled for May 17 at Pecan Valley Golf Course.

This traditional tournament features a “four-man scramble” and shotgun start, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

You may sign up that morning or sign up early through the chamber or at the course.

Cost is $200 per foursome, and that includes 18 holes of golf, with a cart, lunch, official T-shirt, lunch, door prizes, and awards for “closest to the pin” and “longest drive.” Cash payouts, from the entries, will go to the top foursomes.

This is always a fun event for all those that participate, and each player can also buy two “mulligans” for only $5, to help improve their individual score, and potentially their team score. That’s a potential of 8 strokes for each team.

For additional information, contact Raymond Hammonds at the course or by phone at (918) 478-9774, or by contacting me at the chamber at (918) 577-2069.

Also, don’t forget to mark June 13-14 on your calendars, for the 20th Annual Car, Truck, & Motorcycle Show, in downtown.

Some very special things are coming together for this year’s show, including very special prizes and cash payouts of more than $3,000.

We want to make this, the 20th anniversary of our hometown car show, the best ever. Friday will feature the usual “burnout contest” and “loud pipe contest”, followed by our “around town cruise.”

For information, or to enter, contact me at (918) 478-4780 or (918) 577-2069 or by email at: fortgibson@sbcglobal.net.

We are also looking for sponsors and anyone that would like to participate in the planning committee.
