What’s New at the “Q”? Congrats to backpack winners; after-school programs begin

Congratulations to the winners of the school backpacks! Now that school has started, we are making plans for after-school activities.

Marilyn will continue doing various activities with the teens at 4 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon.

Starting the first week in September, there will be an activity for elementary age kids at 4 p.m. every Thursday.

Judy will now do crafts on the first and third Thursday of each month and Lego Club will be held on the second Thursday.

Karaoke will be held the fourth Thursday of the month.

For those months with five Thursdays, games will be out for the kids to play.

So, at 4 p.m. every Thursday there will be something for kids to do during the school year.

Story time for preschool children will continue during the school year at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

Also starting in September, the library will hold beginning computer classes from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday.

We are also working on a Book-a-Librarian program, which will allow patrons to schedule an hour of one-on-one time with one of the staff to help them with their specific needs.

Now is a good time for students and adults alike to come into the library to learn about our databases.

It’s a great time to review old databases that teach new skills, and provide great sources for research.

Freegal allows patrons whose cards are in good standing (no fines or overdue items) to legally download three songs per week.

Our other new database, Zinio, allows patrons to check out magazines on their computers, e-readers or iPhones.

More adult programming is being planned for the school year, so stay tuned, because there’s always something new at the Q!
