Tax preparation at Q.B. Boydstun is winding down. Today and April 10 are the final two days to have your taxes prepared at no cost by local AARP volunteers.
Taxes are prepared on a first-come, first-served basis for all who bring their taxes in to be filed. Volunteers are at the library from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. So if you’ve waited till now, consider coming to the library to have your taxes done.
The 2014 Sequoyah master lists are now available. Sequoyah titles are chosen by the Sequoyah Reading Teams who read many, many books before making their choices. The books are chosen to encourage children of Oklahoma to read books of literary quality.
There are three master lists: Children’s, Intermediate and High School. According to the Oklahoma Library Association’s website on how Sequoyah awards work, “Students in grades 3-5 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Children's master list are eligible to vote for the Children's Sequoyah Book Award.
Students in grades 6-8 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Intermediate master list are eligible to vote for the Intermediate Sequoyah Book Award.
Students in grades 9-12 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the High School master list are eligible to vote for the High School Sequoyah Book Award.
Students vote for a favorite title in February and March, and ballots should be submitted to the Oklahoma Library Association before April 1 each year.
Winners are announced in April…”
The winners for 2013 will be announced soon.
Q. B. Boydstun has all of the Sequoyah books available for you to check-out and read.
At this time, the activities for April include a program for teens (age 11 and up) at 4 p.m. every Tuesday. Marilyn is working hard on fun activities for the teens to do.
Don’t forget story time at 10 a.m. on Thursdays. Story time is great for preparing young children for future reading skills, but also it gives parents a chance to meet and get to know other parents.
Judy will be doing crafts at 4 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month.
More programs are in the works, so watch for more information. There’s always something new at the “Q”!
