Jessica Tschida of Fort Gibson has been awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship for 2014-2015. She will study Russian in Russia for the summer.
The NSLI-Y program is funded by the U.S. Department of State and provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students to learn less commonly-taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs. The state allows 625 students per year the chance to study abroad.
Macareno gets Baylor degree
WACO, Texas — A Fort Gibson woman was one of more than 2,300 graduates at Baylor University during spring commencement exercises May 16 and 17 in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus.
Blanca Olivia Macareno earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
Baylor University is a private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with “high research activity.”
