Reaction to ornaments remains impressive

Hard to believe that we are just a little over a week until Christmas.

The snowy weather has certainly put us in the spirit of the season and caused a little anguish as well, as we all try to get our Christmas shopping finished — or started. Not only was the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas shortened by a week compared to the past several years, the icy streets kept many from venturing out too far from home. On the upside, the slower pace has given us time to reflect on the true reason for the season and give thanks for all that we have been blessed with. The chamber wishes that everyone will have a very merry Christmas and be safe and surrounded by loved ones during this special time of year, as well as a prosperous and joyous New Year.

The reaction to our Christmas ornaments this year has been unbelievable. Not only have we almost sold out of this year's edition, including the reordered quantity, all of the previous years have also been sold out, with the exception on last year's. I still have a small quantity of the 2012 ornament with the town's Christmas tree and Centennial Park's gazebo featured on it. There are also a few 2013 ornaments left featuring the Grand River Bridge at a few locations. SonBurst Graphics, Fort Gibson State Bank, Valu-Med Pharmacy, and Town Hall still have a few, at last check. We will not reorder at this late date, so grab them while you can. Again, special thanks to everyone for your response to our annual Fort Gibson Christmas ornament program. Any recommendations for what to feature on next year's ornament will be taken into consideration. We appreciate your input.

We had a very nice turnout to our Weekly Chamber Luncheon this past Thursday at Charlie's Chicken. In attendance were Mark Young, Tonia Cooper, Jerry Cooper, Denise Bain, Justin Young, Lauren Young, Rhonda Lee, and myself. The roads and some illness has kept many of our regulars home these past few weeks. We will continue to meet at Charlie's Chicken here in Fort Gibson at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday throughout the month of December. Come join us on Dec. 19 and 26, for our weekly luncheon get-together. Everyone is welcome, and we never have any "business" structure — just casual conversation and enjoyable friendship, nothing more. For the month of January, we will be moving our luncheon to The Courtyard Bistro, so make sure that gets on your calendar, as well.

One final note, our annual membership billings will be going out in the mail starting the last week of December, so please keep an eye out for your 2014 Membership Investment invoice. This mailing will go out to all current chamber members, and many potential chamber members. These funds help build the base from which the chamber operates throughout the year and keeps you in touch with all the goings-on, events, and businesses in our area.

Your support is appreciated.
