Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Q.B. Boydstun Library! We are looking forward to 2014. The entire state of Oklahoma will be participating in a One State, One Book program called, Oklahoma Reads “True Grit,” by Charles Portis.
Our focus on True Grit begins in January with our teens collecting non-perishable foods for a local food pantry. We are working on plans for a chili cook-off during January. More details will be available soon.
Don’t forget about our True Grit Photography Contest, “What is True Grit?” Is it the Charles Portis novel “True Grit,” the two movies or is it a part of the American West? The challenge of the contest is for you “to take your camera and go looking for the person or group; that place; that event that represents True Grit to you.”
The rules for the contest can be picked up at any Eastern Oklahoma District Library System library, including Fort Gibson. Entry forms can also be downloaded from www.eodls.lib.ok.us.The entry deadline is Jan. 3. Prizes will be awarded for: Best in Show, $150 gift certificate; First Place, $100 gift certificate; Second Place, $75 gift certificate; and Third Place, $50 gift certificate. Prizes will be provided by Bedford Camera and Video.
Feb. 18 to 21, we will have a trunk full of authentic cowboy items from the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. If you are interested in cowboy gear used during the old west, you’ll want to check it out during February.
During Spring Break in March, we will be showing both versions of the movie “True Grit.” Judy Howard from Buckboard Quilts will present a Bed Turning Program featuring quilts from 1840 to 1960s on March 18.
Once again, don’t forget about the photography contest!! See you soon at the “Q”!
