Thanks for help during absence

It is good to be back! For those of you who have missed the weekly “Chamber Notes” or noticed that the chamber office has been shut for the past several weeks, I had very unexpected quadruple bypass heart surgery, on the 28th of February, and consequently out, until today.

But, things are healing well, and it is really great to be back in the office. Special thanks to those who helped carry on some of the chamber business, namely Tonia Cooper and Board President Justin Young.

I also want to thank all the prayers, cards, visits, and face book well-wishes that were on my behalf. My wife, Kathy, has been my nursemaid and caregiver for this past month and invaluable to my recovery.

Again, thanks to everyone.

The first big news is this weekend’s “Spring Fling for a Cause” 5K and Mile Fun Run, benefiting Special Olympics.

Sign-up can be handled the morning of the run, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Cost to enter is $15 for teams or groups of six or more and $20 for individuals.

Classes will include all age groups, male and female.

This is always a great event for a very worthy cause.

For information, call Melody Stacey at (918) 348-5431, or Lisa Walkingstick at (918) 869-0473.

Upcoming events for the chamber also include our Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament scheduled for May 17 at Pecan Valley Golf Course and our 20th annual Car, Truck, & Motorcycle Show, scheduled for June 13 and 14.

This being our 20th annual show, we are planning some very special additions to our show.

Friday will include the always-popular “Burnout Contest” and “Loud Pipe Contest,” followed by our “Around Town Cruise.”

Saturday’s main event will include great rides from around the area, with a DJ playing great ’50s and ’60s “cruisin” music, along with food and merchandise vendors.

We are also going to be awarding one entry a prize of $1,000 by drawing.

Trophies will go to the top 50 entries, regardless of class, and also special 5-foot trophies and $500 to the best of show in each group — car, truck, and motorcycle.

We are planning on some additional super drawings and random giveaways to the public. This year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet, a great family event that you don’t want to miss.

Much more information will follow as we get closer.
