Library offers free, fun programs for children

— Oklahoma libraries are celebrating Free Comic Book Day on Saturday this year.

The Q.B. Boydstun Library will be giving free comic books to Fort Gibson residents on Saturday and the following week on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is a day for all comic book lovers to pick up a free comic book at their local library.

Comic books will range in topics and age levels, so parents can find appropriate material for their younger children.

Summer reading begins in two weeks.  This year there will be an early literacy reading program for infant to 4-year-old children, an elementary program for children from 5 to 10 years old and a teen program for tweens and teens from age 11 and up.

Sign-up begins May 28 and will continue through the middle of July.

Incentives will be given throughout the program and drawings will be held at the end of the program for those children who complete the program.

Programs will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays this year.  Lego Club will be held on Wednesday morning, preschool story time on Thursday morning, and crafts on Thursday afternoon.

May 28 is the official kick-off for the summer and will begin with “The Avengers” 5-in-1 inflatable set up in the parking lot for kids to bounce, slide and more.

The summer reading program is a free program for all children to enjoy.

It is sponsored by Q.B. Boydstun Public Library — a part of the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System, Institute of Museums and Library Services, Sonic, Oklahoma College Savings Plan and The Oklahoma Department of Libraries.

Summer’s almost here. So parents remember the library has many free and fun activities to keep those kids busy and keep their minds prepared for the next school year.

More programs are in the works, so watch for more information. There’s always something new at the “Q”!
