Chamber Notes: Happy New Year

— Chamber Notes by Gary Perkins

Fort Gibson Chamber of Commerce

Let me first take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and blessed New Year. Hopefully we all have learned some lessons in 2012 that will help us going forward. At the chamber, we are excited about the expectations and plans that are ahead of us in this new year.

The first of our annual activities will take place on Feb. 7 at Three Forks Harbor and Marina, featuring our Annual Chamber Banquet.

This event consists of a silent auction, great dinner hosted by Fajita Rita's, entertainment, guest speaker and "Teacher of the Year" awards.

Everyone is invited and cost is only $20 per person. The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and payment can be made at the door.

This is also the time that we introduce the Board of Directors for the new year. Pending chamber membership ratification, our new board will consist of President Steve Woods, Vice President Justin Calvert and Secretary/Treasurer Justin Young with Will Crawford, Tonia Cooper, Mark Young, David Perry, Lisa Clayton and Cheryl Hill as board members.

As Associate Board Members: Linda Clinkenbeard, Al Stevens, Kathy Perkins, Kathy Carson, Tim Smith and Denise Bain.

When membership renewals go out within the next few days, a letter of "Board Member Ratification" will be included. To accept these individuals as the 2013 Board of Directors, nothing need be done.

We look forward to a strong membership drive as we kick off 2013. As always, if you want to get involved or have some recommendations, let me know, (918) 577-2069 or

Also included in our annual events are the Spring Fling 5K Run on April 6, our golf tournament May 18, annual Car, Truck, & Motorcycle Show on June 14-15, July Fourth Fireworks Show, Fort Gibson 10K (new) and 5K Runs on Aug. 24, Smokin' the Fort BBQ on Oct. 25-26 and our Starlight Christmas Parade on Dec. 2.

We will also be participating in several other events put on by other local organizations. Our goal to have something meaningful going on in Fort Gibson every month is getting closer to reality.

As soon as I get all the firm dates, I will list all the town events that are scheduled for the year.

For the month of January our Weekly Chamber Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday at the Courtyard Bistro.

Come join us for great food, great company and great conversation. Our weekly luncheons are open to everyone are very casual, and always very informative.

Actually, they are just plain fun and enjoyable. Come join us. We want to thank Charlie's Chicken for hosting us throughout the month of December.
