Chamber Notes: Annual banquet today

— Wow, it's February already and so much going on at the chamber. First and foremost, our Annual Chamber Banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Three Forks Harbor & Marina. The general public is invited to come and enjoy a fun-filled evening featuring a silent auction with many great items going up to the highest bidder (on paper), a fabulous dinner catered by Rene and Maria Corral of Fajita Rita's, special entertainment by the Cherokee National Youth Choir under the direction of Kathy Sierra,  a very special guest speaker Cheryl Hill, and Fort Gibson Public Schools "Teacher of the Year" awards.

In all, it will be a very rewarding evening. Cost is only $20 per person, payable at the door, and RSVP is not required to attend.

We hope to see all of you out to this great annual event. We will also introduce the chamber's new Board of Directors and officers for 2013. Come join us.

Speaking of annual banquets, several of us from the Fort Gibson Chamber attended the Muskogee Chamber's annual banquet this past Thursday evening at the Civic Center in Muskogee. Along with Kathy and myself, I saw Steven and Cheryl Hill, Brad and Linda Clinkenbeard, Al Stevens, Justin Calvert, Mark Seabolt, and I'm sure there were others that I missed.

I am also happy to announce that we have a new barber shop opening up in town. The Fort Gibson Barber Shop at 402 W. Poplar, owned and operated by Derek Gawf, is now open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Derek has been a barber for 36 years, and looks forward to many years as Fort Gibson's barber.

The chamber will host an official ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Derek's shop.

Come join us to welcome this new shop in town. There might even be some donuts or cookies involved. For additional information, you can reach Derek at (918) 849-8579.

We had a great group out to our Weekly Chamber Luncheon this past Thursday at the Courtyard Bistro.

Enjoying a meal were: Mark and Sherry Young, Justin and Lauren Young, with son Westin, Sue Edwards, Kathy Perkins, Cheryl Hill, Rhonda Lee, Beverlee Hammonds, Derald Glover, Tonia Cooper, Denise Bain and myself.

We appreciate the crew at the Courtyard Bistro for their hospitality throughout the month of January. For the month of February, we will move our luncheon to Simple Simon's Pizza.

Come join us, each Thursday at 11:30 a.m. for this fun and very casual get-together.

I also want to thank the following businesses and individuals for their chamber membership renewal this past week: Garden Walk of Fort Gibson, Fort Gibson Chiropractic, Whitlock Packaging Corporation, Gil Miller Roofing, McDonalds/Mathews Foods Inc, Subway of Fort Gibson, and Kathy Carson. We appreciate the support of all our membership, along with all the citizens of Fort Gibson.
