We had a great turnout to our weekly chamber luncheon this past Thursday at Simple Simon’s Pizza. Jim Huggins and his crew always put on a great lunch buffet, along with many items that can be individually ordered, like great chicken wings ... just ask Justin Young.
Others present were Mark Young, Lisa Clayton, Sue Edwards, Kathy Perkins, Rhonda Lee, Melinda Williams, Charlie Leveille, Cheryl Hill, Tristan Hill, Tonia Cooper, Denise Bain, and myself. It happened to be Denise’s birthday, so we all sang to her, and Tonia presented her with a great chocolate cookie/brownie that was shared with everyone there. Come join us at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Simple Simon’s.
For the month of March we will move to Subway, at 910 S. Lee St. Again, that’s at 11:30 a.m. each Thursday. Everyone is invited to join us and experience the fun.

Another reminder, the Spring Fling for a Cause 5K and Fun Run benefiting Special Olympics is scheduled for March 29. This annual run will take place at the same spot as last year, just west of the railroad tracks on West Poplar Street.
The course runs toward the casino and returns to the starting line for the finish. Always a great run for a great cause.

I am extremely excited about this year’s 20th annual Car Show, scheduled for June 13 and 14. We will have the usual Fort Gibson Tire & Wheel’s “Burnout and Loud Pipe Contests” on Friday evening. Saturday’s festivities will take on a whole new atmosphere as we make the 20th anniversary show the biggest and best yet.
At our recent Board of Directors monthly meeting, several new ideas were confirmed. Those ideas included a $1,000 payout to one entry by drawing, and additional cash prizes to be presented along with the “Best of Show” trophies. Also this year will be a “People’s Choice” award, where the public will be able to pick their favorite entry and participate in a cash drawing for those that voted for that one winning entry.
All that, along with the regular food and merchandise vendors, blowups for the kids, official T-shirts, live entertainment, door prizes for the public, streaming (not screaming) music from our DJ, and lots of other surprises will make this year one for the record books. Make plans now to participate and be part of this great annual event in downtown Fort Gibson.
