Arts, quilts and massages to be available at show

One of the offerings at the Fort Gibson United Methodist Women’s Arts and Crafts Show could make sore muscles feel better.

Church member Sara Dunlap will set up a massage chair and do neck and shoulder massages. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 302 N. Beauregard St.

Dunlap said she has been doing massages at the craft show for about eight years. She said it is the only craft show where she practices her craft.

“I am into the healing aspect of what I do,” Dunlap said. “Christ touched people.”

Dunlap will do chair massages for the neck, shoulders, back and arms. People sit face-down in the chair.

“I feel the neck carries a lot of pressure,” she said. “The neck and back tense up.”

She said she also is willing to do foot massages on her lap.

Dunlap, who also is doing publicity for the show, said she often found herself massaging some of the vendors at the show in exchange for their crafts.

Promoters expect this year’s show to be busy.

“We have spaces for 34 vendors, and they’re all full,” said Jolene Kirkes, who is in charge of the vendors.

“The show will feature jewelry, fleece blankets, embroidery, homemade fried pies, crochet items,” Kirkes said. “We’ll also have Amish baked goods from Chouteau. The O’Dells from Muskogee have been bringing their honey for years.”

Kirkes said she expects hundreds to show up for the craft show.

The show also will feature a chili lunch and bake sale.

Dunlap said proceeds help the United Methodist Women support local, state and world mission projects.
