Library offers old-fashioned quilt bed turning

Civil War secrets will be revealed when Judy Howard, owner of Buckboard Antique Quilts in Oklahoma City, brings a nostalgic Bed Turning program, a media release states.

The public is invited to bring a brown bag lunch at noon March 18 to the Q.B. Boydstun Library, 201 E. South Ave.

Participants will experience an old-fashioned antique quilt Bed Turning like the pioneers did. They piled their best quilts on the guest bed and peeled back each quilt, one at a time, telling its story. When the circuit preacher or guest came to the bottom layer, he fell into the feather-ticked mattress exhausted.

Howard will unveil her new “Children? Hope for Tomorrow” quilt exhibit, with teddy bears, puppy dogs, Sunbonnet Sues and baby dolls, which evoke giggles, warm fuzzies and nostalgic memories of yesteryear as it inspires visitors to love and teach children well. Children are the “Hope for Tomorrow.”

This exhibit also provides underprivileged children with Hope for Tomorrow because 100 percent of donations will be given to a local food bank.

There is no charge for this program and it is for children and adults.
