Golf tourney canceled for this year

A monthly board meeting was held this past Tuesday, with several topics coming up for discussion.

One of the topics was our upcoming annual golf tournament scheduled for May 17 at Pecan Valley Golf Course.

In review of past events, it was brought up that the event was actually negatively affecting the chamber financially, and the format of a four-man scramble was causing some problems in the pay-out of prize money for lowest scores.

After discussion, the motion was made to cancel the event this year. Motion was seconded and voted upon unanimously.

Consequently, the golf tournament has been canceled for this year.

Another topic that was presented the board was being a purchasing agent for the Soccer Club in their efforts to purchase equipment for the Sports Complex.

Since the chamber is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, using us as a purchasing agent would save the Soccer Club several thousand dollars for the purchase.

Funds to complete the transaction would come entirely from the Soccer Club.

Again, the motion was made and seconded to proceed with the proposal, and voting was unanimous.

Board members for 2014 are: Justin Young, David Perry, Tonia Cooper, Mark Young, Will Crawford, Melinda Williams, Lisa Clayton, Cheryl Hill and Steve Woods. For 2014, Justin Young is Board president, with David Perry being vice president, and Tonia Cooper the secretary/treasurer.
