Band students shine

— The Fort Gibson High School and Middle School concert bands performed at the OSSAA District Concert Band Contest held at the Tahlequah High School Performing Arts Center on March 4-5, and were awarded "Superior" ratings for their stage and sightreading performances. This qualified the Middle School Band to receive the "Outstanding Acheivement Award" for 2013, the highest honor that a middle school band can receive. The High School Band will continue on to the OSSAA State Concert Band Contest to be held at ECU in Ada on April 17.

The Fort Gibson High School Indoor Percussion won first place for the indoor drum line class at the Tulsa Union Mock Regional on March 9. They were awarded first in both the prelims and finals competitions. There were seven other groups from Oklahoma and Arkansas including Coweta, Bixby, Siloam Springs, Farmington, and Greenwood. The indoor percussion directors are Eric and Diania Hopkins. They compete again at Westmoore on March 30 and state championships in Sapulpa on April 6.
