 Genealogy group to meet Monday

The Fort Gibson Genealogy and Historical Society will have its July meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church.

The new fiscal year begins in July, and new officers have been nominated and are to be elected.  

The new officers will start in September as there will be no meeting in August. Dues for the new year are also due. Bring finger foods and desserts, and family history to work on.

The genealogy society welcomes new members.

Apply for clothing assistance    

Applications for the 2013 Clothing Support Program that helps families purchase new school clothes will be available starting Monday

All children applying for the gift cards must be Cherokee citizens and live within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction, as well as meet income guidelines. To qualify, children must be in grades K-12, and parents must provide proof of school enrollment. Parents will also be required to provide income verification for all adults in the household.

Once approved at the site, parents will receive a $100 gift card for each school-aged children within the household.

Dates and locations to apply are as follows:

• 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 19, Fort Gibson High School main cafeteria.

• 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 26 and 30, Sequoyah Schools’ The Place Where They Play upper level.

School track is closed

Beginning Wednesday, Fort Gibson High School’s track will be closed for walking to the community for the remainder of the summer because of construction on the football field, Head Coach James Singleton said.

An artificial surface is being installed on the field.

The bleachers and any area outside of the track will remain open for exercisers, he said.

Zumba offered at ELC PE room

Zumba classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday in the Early Learning Center Physical Education room. Enter on the east side of ELC by the playgrounds. Drop-in fee is $3. Information: (918) 478-4078.


Boot camp offered

Boot camp will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Classes are held in the North Education Building. Enter on the north side, which is the entrance to Pre-K and is the city storm shelter entrance. Drop-in fee is $2. Information: (918) 478-4078.
