FCCLA gathers food for local pantry

Twenty members of the Fort Gibson High School Family Career and Community Leaders of America gathered on Nov. 6 to eat, have fun and give service to others.

FCCLA members gathered at a the local Simple Simon's for dinner then were divided into groups of five and given a list of items needed for the local food pantry Thanksgiving baskets. The scavenger hunt adventure began!

Students raced against the clock and each other to see who could collect the most items specifically for Thanksgiving baskets.

Students invaded local neighboorhoods collecting more than 15 boxes of dried and canned goods.

The items were then delivered to the First United Methodist church food pantry in town.

FCCLA members assisting in the food collections were:  Amy Cook, Emily Sellers, Emma Gilbreth, Kyla Hinkle, Carly Adams, Amber Moore, Madison Weeden, Madison Higley, Summer Guinn, Maggie Taylor, Jolena Mashunkashey, Lauren Greer, Madison Branch, Kali Landers, Lauren McFarland, Zach McFarland, Catherine Wilson, Sierra Dearman, Jacob Payne and Nicholas Bailey.

FCCLA is a national student organization sponsored by the State Department of Career and Technology Education and the Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers.  Fort Gibson FCCLA is under the sponsorship of  Janet Freeling and Retha Eastwood.
