Chamber Notes: Thanks to renewing chamber members

— By Gary Perkins

Before I remind everyone of our Annual Chamber Banquet coming up in early February, I want to make you all aware of something special going on at the Q.B. Boydstun Library here in Fort Gibson. Already begun and continuing through Friday, they will be conducting "Geek Week” activities.

The idea is to introduce everyone to the concept of "geek" as a verb for whatever you are passionate about, and what the library can do to support those special interests. “Theme" days include: Today featuring Bunco and games, tomorrow featuring backward day activities, beginning at 4 p.m., and Friday as come and get your picture for a special "Geek Poster" day.

Sounds like a fun week and a good time to not only support our local library, but see what they can do to help all of us discover our own geekness.

A special thank you to Rhonda Lee, branch manager, for her efforts.

As mentioned, our Annual Chamber Banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Three Forks Harbor & Marina.

It is open to everyone for a cost of only $20 per person. You will enjoy a silent auction with lots of great items up for grabs to the highest silent bidder, dinner featuring a Mexican buffet hosted by Fajita Rita's, special entertainment from the Cherokee Girls Choir, guest speaker Cheryl Hill and Teacher of the Year awards.

It is always a fun evening for all those in attendance. Payment is accepted at the door, and RSVP is not required — just come and enjoy a great social evening.

For additional information, or to donate something for our silent auction, give me a call at (918) 478-4780 or (918) 577-2069.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our Weekly Chamber Luncheons at the Courtyard Bistro for the month of January. We will meet there for one more Thursday, at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, before moving to the Simple Simon's Pizza in Fort Gibson for the month of February.

Come join us. This past week, the following individuals joined us: Karen Holderby, Kathy Perkins, Tonia Cooper, Denise Bain, Mark and Sherry Young, Justin Young, Justin Calvert, Rhonda Lee and myself. See you at the Courtyard Bistro tomorrow.

I also want to thank the following businesses and services for their chamber membership renewals received this past week: ServiceMaster Elite, Dr. Frank Evans DDS, Fort Gibson Women's Club, Q.B. Boydstun Library, Tahlequah City Hospital, Oklahoma Natural Gas, Fort Gibson Nursing Home, Keane Construction/National Barn, and the Muskogee Phoenix/Fort Gibson Times.

We appreciate the support of all our membership.
