Math students learn through cartoons

— Cartoons drawn by Fort Gibson Middle School students reflect what they're learning in math, not art class. Math teacher Kim Morgan said the students are studying scale drawings and proportions. “They started with a 1/4-inch scale and moved to a 1-inch,” Morgan said. “Some of my kids that have trouble drawing stick figures are drawing great cartoons this way.” This is an example of the new Core Curriculum, in which teachers are encouraged to provide “real world” application to their lessons, she said.
