Boo delivers it in All-Star effort

Kyonna “Boo” Syrus got one last hurrah on her home field Thursday.

The Muskogee High School senior went 3-for-4 with four RBIs but most importantly, drove in the go-ahead runs in the ninth inning as the North All-Stars beat the South All-Stars 7-5 in the Green Country All-Star Game played at Rougherettes Park.

Syrus’s two-run, two-out single with the bases loaded broke a 5-5 tie and earned her the Most Valuable Player honor.

“I just feel it every time the bases are loaded,” said Syrus of her game-winning hit. “It gets me pumped. It’s not going to bother me being in that situation. I just told myself I just needed to get the run home from third and we’re in the lead.”

“She was crazy all game,” teammate Lorin Hammer of Sequoyah said, “She's a clutch player.”

So was Hammer. The North scored three runs in the first inning. With two on and two outs, Hammer hit a two-run double to put the North up 2-0.

“I was just up there relaxed and having fun,” Hammer said. “I go up there relaxed and it is a pretty good feeling to get a run on the board.”

Syrus dug in and hit a single that drove in Hammer that made it 3-0 in the first inning. Tahlequah’s Sesilly Whittmore doubled in Muskogee’s Sarah Moschak in the second for a 4-0 lead.

Webbers Falls Kimmy Carter smashed an RBI triple for the South in the bottom of the second to make it a 4-1 game and the South would go on to put two more runs on, including an RBI single from Sallisaw’s Erica Robertson, but would leave the bases loaded.

Tahlequah’s Kenzie Stopp singled home Haskell’s Savanna Moats to make it a 5-3 advantage before the South got two runs to tie the game, including an RBI single by Porum’s Keeley Corbell.

Muskogee coach Keith Coleman was the North coach and the game’s coordinator.
