Cody Floyd’s two-out grand slam in the top of the seventh Thursday lifted Muskogee to a 10-8 win over Cascia Hall in the first day of the Owasso Tournament.
Floyd’s shot, his first of the season, capped a comeback from a 6-0 hole.
“He’s been pressing a little bit having a sluggish start but he came through because he’s really spent time working his butt off on his swing,” MHS coach Jeremy Griffin said.
Floyd was one of several Roughers with two hits, but Luke Smith led the team with a 3-for-3 day. Garrett Brown was 2-for-5 and Dakota Morse, Harris Jones and Ethan Barton were all 2-for-4. Jones and Barton each had two doubles.
Tyler Bowden survived a bumpy outing going six innings and surrending eight runs, but only four were earned. Barton came on in the seventh and retired the side in order to get the save.
The Roughers continue tournament play against Tahlequah at 5 p.m. today. Tahlequah beat Berryhill 18-3 but no other information was available.
Fort Gibson beat Tulsa Edison 10-2. The Tigers stole six bases including four in the first inning and improved to 2-3 for the season. Fort Gibson scored five runs in the first.
Markie Carman, Bubba Stone and Tristan Johnson each had two hits in the game and Colton Dorris (1-0) was the winning pitcher. The Tigers play Owasso, the No. 1 team in Class 6A, at 7:30 tonight in the tournament.
