MHS volleyball moves into Westmoore semis with three victories

Phoenix staff report

— Muskogee’s yet to lose through four matches as the Lady Roughers swept their way into the bracket semifinals of the Westmoore tournament on Friday.

Muskogee  beat Westmoore 3-0 with wins of 25-23-25-16, 25-20. Next was Bishop McGuinness in a 3-1 verdict (25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23). The finale was a 3-0 win over Putnam City North (25-15, 25-8, 25-22).

The Lady Roughers are now 4-0 on the young season.

“I thought we played really well,” MHS coach John Hammer said. “We lost a little focus in the last match where we won the third game, so we didn’t finish like I would have liked. But overall I thought we had good energy, ran good offense and had a great defense.”

Against Westmooore, Claire Farmer had 19 kills with Carla Jones and Leigh Westbrook having five each and Madison Hunter three. Farmer also had four blocks and three digs. Abby Wayman had 10 digs and Alexis Rosson had eight.

Farmer again had 19 kills against McGuinness. Rosson had four kills and four digs. Madison Hunter had five kills and Jensen Martin had 32 assists, raising that by one in the finale. In that match, Rosson had four kills and four aces.

Farmer finished the day with 15 kills in the final match.

Brett Allen was credited by the coach as well.

“It doesn’t show up in the stats, but her passing was phenomenal,” he said. “She was consistent there all day.”

Muskogee draws Putnam City, the runner-up in the other pool, at 9 a.m. today.
