Prep basketball roundup and schedule


CHECOTAH 85, BEGGS 77 OT — Braylon Warrior, Keaton Donathan and DeShawn Jackson scored four points each in overtime to lift the Wildcats to the Big Eight Star Conference victory at Checotah’s Truman Dixon Field House on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 69-69 at the end of regulation.

Warrior had 33 points, while Cameron Pipe had 12, DeShawn Jackson scored 11 and DeShay Bear added 10 as the Wildcats improved to 13-10 overall and 7-3 in conference. Cruz Lynch led  Beggs with 23.

Checotah plays at Locust Grove in Class 4A districts on Friday.

WARNER 50, CENTRAL SALLISAW 49 – Warner (13-9, 4-5) handed Central Sallisaw their first Big Eight Conference loss. The Eagles led the whole way before Central Sallisaw hit a halfcourt shot to cut the lead to one at the end of the game.

Leading the way for Warner was Kyle Taylor and Tim Smithson led the Eagles with 14 points each and Grey Denton added 11.

HULBERT 62, OKAY 60 – The Riders (13-10, 7-3) hung on to beat the Mustangs (5-15, 2-4) for the Big Eight Conference victory. Zac Cagle missed a 3-pointer at the end of the game for the Mustangs.

Hulbert’s Mason Fielden exploded from the three-point line,  sinking nine shots from behind the arc. Okay trailed by 15 points in the fourth quarter before rallying and falling short.

Fielden led Hulbert with 29 points and Craig Potts added 16.

All five Okay starters scored in double-figures and Nigel King led the way with 15 points. The others were Zac Cagle (13), Dakota Haley (12) Noah Eastwood (12) and Cody Fielder (10).

STILWELL 58, SEQUOYAH 48 –  The Indians (15-8) had trouble with Stilwell’s size as 6-foot-9 Matt Lea scored 21 points and 6-6 Brody Clay had 15 in winning at the Place Where They Play.

Caisen Green and Trinton Herron led Sequoyah with 12 points each. Sequoyah opens Class 3A district play at home Friday against Haskell.


SEQUOYAH 57, STILLWELL 54 – Sequoyah (16-6) was led by the combination of Loren Young’s 17 points and Audrey Ballou’s 16.

STIGLER 42, HARTSHORNE 32 – The Lady Panthers wrapped up the regular season on a winning note, capturing the Black Diamond Conference game at Stigler.

Brook Hurst led the Stigler (10-12, 7-3) with 15 points. The Lady Panthers begin Class 3A district play at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Eufaula.

BEGGS 58, CHECOTAH 42 – Checotah (3-19, 0-10) fell to Beggs at home in Big Eight Star Conference action on Tuesday. Katie Smith led Checotah in scoring with 18 points.

CENTRAL SALLISAW 31, WARNER 17 –  The Lady Eagles (9-13,4-6) shot just 10 percent from the field in losing the Big Eight Conference game. Raven Girty led Lady Eagles with four points.
