Phoenix Staff Reports
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Records: Fort Gibson 5-3, 3-2 4A-4; Stilwell 3-5, 2-3.
Last week: Cascia Hall 34, Fort Gibson 28 OT; Stilwell 21, Tulsa Rogers 12.
Last meeting: Fort Gibson 42, Stilwell 14 (2012).
About the matchup: The Tigers and Indians are both battling for a playoff spot. Stilwell needs to win out to grab the final berth in 4A-4 while the Tigers can claim the No. 3 spot with a victory or possibly missing the postseason altogether with a loss
On offense, Stilwell likes to run first, then run second and finally run third. The feature back in the Indians’ attack is Austin McGee, a 6-feet-1, 220 pound junior. Defensively, senior linebackers Zachary Jordan and Gregery Benham will be the main obstacles to solve for the Fort Gibson offense to click.
“They make a lot of tackles and are very, very active,” FGHS coach James Singleton said. “Their free safety (Alec) Hernandez is their best secondary guy and plays kind of a centerfield and has success getting a lot of interceptions and pass breakups.”
Fort Gibson QB J.R. Singleton comes in as the area’s fourth leading scorer and has a combined pass-rush total of 2,000 yards. Michael Richey and Michael Rosales have 6.5 and 5.5 sacks.
Series record: Fort Gibson leads, 19-14.
Notes: Fort Gibson has won 11 of the last 12 meetings…last week’s overtime loss was the seventh straight for the Tigers. The last time Fort Gibson won an overtime game was 1999 against Coweta (28-27).
