Muskogee wrestling knocked off by Owasso

Muskogee coach John Petty wasn’t making excuses.

Indeed, he and the Rougher wrestlers got a surprise Tuesday, losing 45-23 to Owasso in a dual at Owasso.

The Rams were coming off a loss to Sand Springs last week. Muskogee was reportedly without six starters.

“Even though we were without those starters I thought we had a competitive lineup that could get the job done,” said Petty, in his first season as MHS coach. “No excuses, we didn’t. We got outwrestled and ultimately it is the coach’s job to get the team to respond.

“I expect a much better effort for Sapulpa on Friday. It’s our next district dual so we better be ready if we want to accomplish one of our team goals.”

Of the losses, five were by pins and one by forfeit.

“The match was out of reach so I decided to rest  Buckhanan coming back from injury,” Petty said.

Muskogee is now 1-2 and faces its second of three District 6A-8 matches at Sapulpa on Friday.
