Fort Gibson head football coach James Singleton said Sunday he will not apply for the vacant head football job at Muskogee High.
“Muskogee is a great place and I have life-long friends there. But after taking all parts of my life into consideration I feel like my place at this time of my life is at Fort Gibson," he said.
Singleton has coached at Fort Gibson three seasons, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2012. He was an applicant and interviewed for the Muskogee job in January 2011 to succeed Matt Hennesy.
Superintendent Mike Garde said late Friday that 22 applications had been received. The final day to receive applications is Monday. At that time or afterward, the school board can act on a recommendation for hire.
