Oktaha scores regional golf title

Oktaha won the Class 2A girls golf regional held Wednesday and Kailey Campbell gave notice that she’ll be tough to beat at next week’s state tournament.

Campbell shot a 2-over 74 to edge Katie Lee Wilson, the defending 2A champion, by six strokes. Campbell, like Oktaha as a team, is aiming to regain titles lost last year. Oktaha’s finished second behind Hinton when a bid for a fourth consecutive state championship fizzled in a second-round skid. Campbell was the top medalist in 2011 and was third last year, five strokes behind Wilson.

The Tigers shot 357 for a 34-stroke victory over Rejoice Christian. Latta was third at 414, followed by Sallisaw Central (442). Allen (453) and Drumright (495) also qualified for state, set for May 1-2 at Trosper Park in Del City.

Jaylie Roper was next for Oktaha, finishing third with her 84. Madyson Fox shot 97 and Dakota Dearman carded a 102.

The tournament was postponed one day due to weather conditions.
