Oktaha sweeps at Crowder Tournament

Phoenix Staff Reports

— CROWDER – The Oktaha boys took advantage of their inside game in handling Indianola 72-30 in their first-round game of the Crowder Tournament.

With the win, the Tigers, No. 2 in the Class 2A poll, improve to 5-0 on the season.

“We dominated the boards,” said Oktaha coach Jim Glover. “We gave them hardly any second-chance points.”

Dustin Leach led Oktaha with 23 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Christian McIntosh finished with 11 points in the game while Logan Gregg had 10 points.

“It seemed like every time we missed, we got the rebound,” Glover said. “We had an overall size advantage and used it.”

The Tigers return to the floor at 8:40 p.m. tonight against Lakewood Christian and Glover said his team might face the same problem it presented to Indianola.

“They are very big,” he said. “They have one 6-4 kid and one 6-2 kid and both crash the boards. We need to be better with our shot selection than we were (Tuesday) and must keep them off the boards.”

The No. 6 Oktaha Lady Tigers improved to 5-0 with a 62-19 romp over Hartshorne’s junior varsity in their first-round game at the Crowder Tournament.

Jaylie Roper led the way as she was the only player to finish in double figures with 12 points.

“We got a chance to play all the kids tonight,” said Oktaha coach Chester Pittman. “This was a good chance for the girls to get their feet underneath them.”

Oktaha next plays Tushka in the tournament at 7:40 p.m. Thursday.
