BREAKING NEWS: Fort Gibson repeats as 4A girls champs

OKLAHOMAS CITY - It will be forever known in Fort Gibson girls’ basketball history as “The Shot.”

Allie Glover drained a 27-footer with 3.2 seconds remaining that lifted the Lady Tigers to a 50-47 come-from-behind victory over the Anadarko Lady Warriors to win the Class 4A state championship on Saturday at State Fair Arena.

With the win, the Lady Tigers became the first team in 4A to win back-to-back state titles since the OSSAA went to 5-on-5 in 1995. The last 4A team to repeat as champions was Carl Albert in 1989.

The victory was also the 30th of the season, against one loss, for Fort Gibson, topping the 29-win mark they set last season.

The Lady Tigers trailed Anadarko 39-23 heading into the fourth quarter when they began their comeback and actually took the lead at 45-44 when Desiree Phipps connected on a layup with 1:24 remaining in the fourth quarter.

After Anadarko’s Ashley Beatty converted two free throws with 1:11 left to put the Lady Warriors back on top, 46-45, Phipps made another jumper from the free-throw line with 36.7 left to give the Lady Tigers the lead back at 47-46.

When Kelsey Schumpert made the second of two free throws to tie the game at 47-47 with 13 seconds left on the clock, Glover got into position eight feet beyond the top of the circle, took a pass from Grace Parker, and etched her named into FGHS folklore.
