TRI-STATE TOURNAMENT — At Jay, Sequoyah (10-5) beat Lifeway Christian School 74-35 in a first-round contest. The Indians had three scorers in double-figures, Casien Green led with 15 points. The Indians continue tournament play at 5:40 p.m. against the winner of Jay and Colcord.
Sequoyah girls beat Owasso JV 50-31 as Courtney Jones scored 19 points and Audrey Ballou had 18 for the Lady Indians (10-5), who advance to play Jay at 4:20 p.m. today. Sequoyah held Owasso to one field goal in a 19-3 first quarter. Kansas beat Tahlequah JV 82-27 in another girls game.
MOUNDS TOURNAMENT — Porter’s Jacob Richardson connected for a season-high 51 points as the Pirates opened play with an 85-60 win over Bristow. Kevon Bates had 13 points and Brandon Fowler had 11. Porter took control with a 10-2 start.
Richardson, the two-time All-Phoenix MVP, had two previous games in the 40s. The Pirates play Checotah, a 65-57 winner over Summit Christian, at 5:30 today in one semifinal. Checotah (9-6) led 22-11 after one quarter and got four players in double-figures led by Cameron Pope with 16 points and 17 rebounds. DeShawn Jackson had 14, Braylon Warrior 14 and DeShay Bear had 13.
Oktaha, meanwhile, blew open a 31-21 contest with Mounds at the break by running off a 30-3 third quarter on the way to a 76-45 decision. Blake Pittman had three 3s and 11 of his 17 points in that quarter and Christian McIntosh, who got into early foul trouble and sat much of the second quarter, scored 10 of his 14 points in that frame. Caleb Shoemake grabbed 11 rebounds for the Tigers (14-2), who will face Glenpool, a winner over Haskell, at 8:30 tonight in the other semifinal.
In girls play, 2A No. 4 Oktaha (27-5) beat Porter 67-34 as Jaylie Roper had 16 points, Kelsey Cantwell 11 and Lacy Ogden 10. Cierra Richardson and Tanisha Carmichael had 12 each for Porter (3-10), which plays Summit Christian at 10 a.m. today in consolation play. Oktaha gets Bristow in a 7 p.m. semifinal. Haskell beat Mounds 53-34 as Sherrell McHenry had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Tashay Love had 10 points. Haskell plays Glenpool in a 4 p.m. semifinal. Checotah lost and will play Mounds in consolation play.
MOORE TOURNAMENT — In boys action, Tahlequah fell to 4-10 after trailing just 33-28, losing 78-52 to Moore. The leading scorers for the Tigers was Dalton Cunningham with 14 points, Will Carlile and Lane Wright put up 10 points each. The Tigers resume tournament play at 2:30 p.m. today.
Tahlequah trailed 17-4 early in the contest and lost 65-60 against Choctaw. Whitney Wright had 13 for Tahlequah, which falls into the consolation round today.
KIEFER TOURNAMENT — Hulbert split at the Dave Calvert Tournament at Kiefer. The Lady Riders beat Oaks 44-26 to move to 11-5 on the year and into a 4 p.m. semfinal contest against RIpley today. Tiffany Thompson led the Lady Riders with 20 points, including six 3-pointers.
On the boys side, a 25-9 first-quarter hole by Kellyville buried the Riders 66-50, also in the first round. Mason Fielden had 12 points as did Ricco Wynn 12 and Parker Taylor totaled 11. Hulbert (9-7) plays Drumright in consolation play at 11:30 a.m. today.
PORUM INVITATIONAL — Quinton got 25 points from Brad Davis, who had five 3-pointers to his credit, to beat Gore 64-54 to advance to Saturday’s boys final opposite McCurtain, which beat Keota 57-56 in another game Thursday. Gore got 16 points from James Byrd, 12 from Derrick Jestice and 11 from Jake Johnson. Gore and Keota will play Saturday for third place.at 5:40 p.m.
Warner burned up the nets from 3-point range and got 10 of their 12 players dressed scoring in a 53-6 over Midway. Tim Smithson had 11 points and Kyle Taylor 10 as Warner emptied its roster. Cody Coffman hit three 3-pointers off the bench. Warner (8-8) plays Porum at 3 p.m. Saturday in the consolation finals. Porum (8-7) beat Panola 45-32 as Dakota Wright poured in 20 points. Panola and Midway are scheduled to play for seventh on Saturday.
